Shocking Really!

This weekend, I was blessed with one of those

"I TOLD YOU SO" moments....every woman knows what I am talking about, and secretly...we all LOVE them!

Our house is hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year for my extended family and are very delighted to do so, however, there were a number of things I wanted to do before then and made quite the TO DO list for my dear hubby!  First off, let me say...he has been working his little heart out to get this stuff done and it looks great.  The only thing I have gotten done on my half of the list is nap...and actually, it wasn't on the original list, I just added that after he poked fun of me.  He's been busy painting the living room and with the left over paint, we painted the laundry room.  Now, with all that nice fancy paint, we needed updated electrical outlets and switches.   (and when I say "we", it's in the collective sense and really means Brian!)

This past Sunday, he did the laundry room and at about 3:30, was finally able to do the outlet in the laundry room. It was the regular routine of

"you watch and tell me when the lights go out",
because seriously...who's electrical panel in the dark basement is clearly labeled?!?!

So, I do my duty and let him know.  He runs upstairs and tackles changing the outlet.

Shortly there after, I hear "F**K!!!!  That sucker's still live!"

I didn't laugh right out of the gate, I did ask if he was ok and I sincerely meant it.  But then I started mocking him.  See, he wrongly assumed that the lights and switches were on the same breaker.  But THAT is not my reason for making fun of him!

See, when we were doing the kitchen, he had troubles with one of the light switches, because it was a two-way switch and eventually, he called the neighbour over to look.  The neighbour had this "fancy" little tool to let you know if there is still power to an outlet BEFORE you stick the metal screwdriver in.  Brian just HAD to have one of these!

"It's only about 5 bucks and I will use it ALL THE TIME!"

Whatever..have at it, if it makes you happy!

Did he use that tool in this particular case?  Nope!  THAT ladies and gentlemen, is why I laughed at him.

BTW, I warned him he gave me a perfect story for my blog.  Anyone up for more embarrassing Brian stories?   I have lots and really, he can't stop me!  Divorce me perhaps, but that would be too costly!  Plus, he couldn't survive without me! :-)

Seasons Of Change

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I am pretty sure Mother Nature took one look at the calendar and said "Oops, it's September....time to turn off the heat!"

It's Fall and officially one of my two favorite seasons!  I like the cooler weather, the need for sweaters and yummy chicken stew!  I'm done looking after gardens and ready to let dear ol' mother nature take care of them for the rest of the year!  It's time for fresh apples and school, Halloween decorating and turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

This year, fall also brings lots of changes.  The past couple weeks have been a complete blur.  One of the biggest changes is the kids have started daycare.  For almost 5 years, they have had a sitter at our house, but some events made us decide it was best for all of us to enroll the kids in the local daycare.  Some hard choices were made and anyone close to us, know all of the many reasons and I feel any parent in our position would have made the same choice.  I knew parenting was full of hard choices, but this was one of the toughest.  So far, I have seen nothing but positive effects from the change.  The kids are no longer together all day and are not fighting as much.  Abby, my terribly picky eater, is trying a few new things at the table.  Tonight, for example...she eat a big dish of apple sauce that I made.  That is a first for her! Hayden on the other hand is having a tougher time with the transition to daycare.  He wants to be home to "play with his toys and watch his shows" But for him, I feel this will only help him continue to flourish with his speech and small motor skills.

Hayden has also started Senior Kindergarten with a new teacher.  He loves school and gets so excited on the mornings that he goes.

Hayden has had the summer off from Speech Therapy, but I suspect soon we will have a review meeting to see where we should go from here.  Last year his speech was just developing and now we are to focus on grammar.  It's amazing to see how far he has come.

Another big change in our house is we painted the living room.  Brian and I are excited to be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner this year, but we desperately needed to paint the living room.  The kitchen had been painted a number of months ago in a lovely shade of lime green ( "stolen" from a wonderful friend who painted her kitchen in the same colour)  The living room and kitchen are mostly connected, so I needed  a colour that would work well with lime green.  At first I thought yellow, but decided that would be too Lemon-Limey.  In the end, I decided on gray.  What ended up on the wall was a more blue-gray.  And all I could think of was my girlfriend once using the saying "blue and green should never be seen, except in the washing machine"  Well, I defied the objects of colour-matching.  Besides, I didn't have much choice....we had already bought 3 gallons.  I really like the colour though now that everything is back in place.  Next to be painted is the bathroom and then our bedroom.  That will have the house painted in our own colour choices.

This weekend, we also went Apple Picking.  3 years ago, we found this great little apple orchard.  I had wanted a place to go pick apples and have a wagon ride.  You would actually be surprised how hard it was to find a place to fill both of those needs...or fill those needs without charging an arm and a leg for a wagon ride! Both this year and last year, my girlfriend Bonnie came to join us.  I think she came just to come and see me, 'cause the apples she prefers are not ready until the end of October, or at least that is what I have told myself.  My condition for "allowing" her to come with us, is she has to take pictures of my kids and share them.  For 2 reasons...one, she has an awesome camera and two...which is also a reason you can only understand if you have more than 1 child.....I have 2 kids, I don't take pictures much anymore.  Too busy chasing kids to snap photos.  I mean, come on, I actually don't have a single picture of Abby printed, compared to the 2 albums full of Hayden pictures.

Well, there you go, a blog update on the whirlwind of life.  Hopefully, I can get back into my weekly updates!
